For many of us, our homes are now our home theaters. But you know what’s missing when you settle in on the couch with your bowl of (perfectly microwaved) popcorn? Proper lighting. Specifically, that cool, colorful, theater-style glow emanating from behind the screen.

It’s called bias lighting, and right now it’s insanely cheap: For a limited time, and while supplies last, the Govee TV LED Light kit drops to just $7 when you clip the on-page 50 percent-off coupon.

This is a 6.5-foot peel-and-stick string of LEDs. Typically you’ll run them along the back edge of your TV — it’s suitable for anything from 40-60 inches — then plug the USB power cord directly into your TV’s USB port. (You can also plug into a USB AC adapter if necessary, but take note that Govee doesn’t include one of those.)

From there you pair the light strip with the Govee app on your phone; the two connect via Bluetooth. With that app you can set the color (from literally 16 million choices), adjust brightness and even set up scene modes (like “movie” or “romantic”).

If you don’t want to futz with your phone, there’s an inline remote that lets you quickly turn the LEDs on and off, cycle between modes and so on. That can also mount to the back of your TV or just to the side of it for easier access.

I was fairly lukewarm about this kind of lighting at first — pictures don’t really do it justice — but it’s really, really cool. Practical too: Studies have shown that backlighting can actually help reduce eye fatigue. But getting back to the “cool” factor: If you thought Avengers: Infinity War couldn’t get any better, try watching it with a glowing blue background.

And for a measly $7? It’s absolutely worth a try.

You might also want to bring this kind of lighting to other areas of your house — under kitchen cabinets, for example, or outside on a patio. Govee’s 16.4-foot LED light strip drops to $21 when you clip the on-page 10%-off coupon. It’s not only nearly three times the length of the TV strip, it’s also waterproof.
