‘Black Widow’ Actor Says He’s Playing The First Mutant In The MCU

Ursa Majors is part of the Soviet Super-Soldiers.

Olivier Richters from Black Widow has confirmed that he’s the first mutant in the MCU.

After a long road to release, Scarlett Johansson’s solo Black Widow film was finally released earlier this month to critical and commercial acclaim. The first film in Phase 4 of the MCU, the solo film detailed Natasha Romanoff’s past, as well as giving fans insight into her surrogate family. It also briefly delved into how The Soviet Union/Russia deals with superheroes, and how it too strived to create its own Avengers-like team. In fact, Natasha’s surrogate father Alexei is Red Guardian, Russia’s counterpart to Captain America.

Well, it turns out that Black Widow might have featured another Russian superhero, who just might also happen to be the MCU’s first mutant. In one of the more memorable scenes from the film, David Harbour’s Alexei is seen arm wrestling Ursa Major in prison. Major, played by Olivier Richters, loses the match to Alexei. Hardcore Marvel fans would know that Ursa Major is a mutant that has the ability to turn into a bear, not too dissimilar to Bruce Banner turning into a green, hulking version of himself.

Now would be the perfect time to introduce mutants into the MCU, seeing as the deal between Fox and Disney has settled. In fact, this wouldn’t be the only X-Men/mutant reference in Black Widow as the film features a cheeky nod towards Wolverine in a pivotal action sequence.

Nevertheless, Richters seems confident that he’s playing the first mutant in the MCU and the star took to Instagram to express his excitement and his hopes to play Ursa Major again, this time in his bear form.
