Broncos’ Kendall Hinton pokes fun at self for Hall of Fame honor

Kendall Hinton’s performance at quarterback last season was anything but Hall of Fame worthy. However, he has now cemented himself amongst some of the greatest football players of all time.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame created a “Season in Review” exhibit that includes items from events that occurred because of COVID-19. The exhibition showcases how the NFL was able to navigate through a season during the pandemic.

In Week 12, the Broncos quarterback room was ravaged by the virus. This led to Hinton starting for the team as the emergency quarterback. Now the quarterback wristband that he wore in the game will be placed in the exhibit.

“What a blessing. still unreal.. unfortunately I’ll have to explain to my kids what a negative QBR is someday,” Hinton tweeted.

In his debut, the wide receiver completed just 1 of 9 passes for 13 yards and threw two interceptions. He ended the game with a QBR of 0.1. The Broncos offense had only 113 total yards in a 31-3 loss to the Saints.

Even though it was Hinton’s first start as a quarterback in the NFL, he had experience at the collegiate level. The 24-year-old spent four seasons playing QB for the Wake Forest Demons Deacons before transitioning to wide receiver for his fifth year.

In his 22 starts at quarterback, Hinton threw for 1,504 total yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 53% of his throws. Hinton was known for his ability to scramble rather than his arm. He rushed for 881 yards and 12 touchdowns while playing QB.

The former quarterback did not receive any snaps at wide receiver for the Broncos this past season. He was mainly kept on the practice squad as he learned his relatively new position. But that could change for the upcoming season. He is starting to receive attention from the coaching staff and could push for playing time.

“The guy that has had a really good camp from the start of OTAs until now has been Kendall,” head coach Vic Fangio said at Broncos minicamp last month. “He’s really looked good as a receiver and he’s improved a lot. He’s in the hunt for one of those spots.”
