A California swimmer was hospitalized Saturday after being bitten by a great white shark.
The unnamed 35-year-old man, described as a surfer by NBC Bay Area, was chomped in the right leg and was “able to swim ashore and medical aid was summoned” before he was transported to a local hospital, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Police estimate the shark was 6- to 8-feet long. The attack took place at 9:15 a.m. PT at Grey Whale Cove State Beach, about 20 miles south of San Francisco.
The beach remains closed.
