The Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard has always been the subject of controversy on the show and is no stranger to catfights on reality television.
One of her most heated feuds on the show she had was with her mother, Dorothy. The tense relationship between the mother-daughter duo has been the constant plot of the reality tv show.
Let’s look back at some of the major arguments that went down between Dillard and her therapist mom over the past few years.
When Dillard Took Therapy Sessions after a Fight with Her Mother
According to a 2019 article from Bravo, though Dorothy paid a portion of Dillard’s mortgage for her home with her partner Chris Bassett, the two have frequently butted heads.
She claimed that her mother hit her in the face with her purse at a wedding event. A heated argument turned into a physical altercation while they attended a wedding together.
Shortly after the fight, the reality television star began attending therapy sessions with her therapist. The therapist provided her a contract to fill up with her mother to assist them in their strained relationship.
Dillard revealed on The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show that she hoped to continue the therapy treatment even after the first session. “So we did a mother-daughter contract after therapy. And it worked for, like, five minutes. We both signed it,” she added.
However, according to Dillard, her mother wasn’t exactly open to an agreement of sorts, but couldn’t argue because they had to follow the mother-daughter contract.
She further explained that she was going back for the treatment with some faith to mend their relationship.
When Dillard Invited Her Half Brother to Her Wedding
Another heated argument between Dillard and her mother Dorothy happened on the season 4 premiere of The Real Housewives of Potomac in 2019.
The disagreement started after her mother found that Dillard had invited her half-brother Michael to her wedding with her long-time partner Bassett.
Dorothy’s former husband, Walter, had fathered Michael in college during a “tryst” with another woman. He was raised by his mother, with no contact with the rest of his family.
According to Dorothy, Dillard was dragging her father’s “tryst”, his cheating and lying into the wedding. She further added that it was embarrassing for her and the family.
Why do you chase after his illegitimate children that have never been a part of your life? That doesn’t make sense, Candiace. Did you consider me? Did you consider my family?
Though Dorothy was furious over the invite, Dillard stood strong in her support for Michael.
She explained her mom should be furious at her dad and not upset at someone who didn’t have a choice. She continued the incident took place about four decades ago and it was not humiliating as everyone was aware of the assignation.
Dillard grew closer to Michael as she grew older, to where she wanted him to be present on her big day.
In a 2018 interview with People, the Bravo celebrity stated that Dorothy had got furious both the times she had mentioned her half-brother’s presence in her life.
Further explaining the situation, she said “I think that when she thinks about him, he reminds her of her pain.” She continued Michael is a great person, and feels guilty that she can’t have the brother-sister relationship out in the open.
Dillard also noted that she doesn’t have many pictures with her brother, because if Dorothy had come across them, she could imagine her blowing a gasket.
