Dead Space remake announced at EA Play Live

Dead Space is back. Visceral Games’ sci-fi survival horror classic, originally released in 2008, is being remade by Electronic Arts’ Motive studio, the publisher announced during Thursday’s EA Play Live digital showcase.

Motive is best known for its work on Star Wars Battlefront 2’s single-player campaign and Star Wars: Squadrons.

The new Dead Space will be a remake, not a remaster, of engineer Isaac Clarke’s terrifying adventure aboard the USG Ishimura spaceship, Electronic Arts said. A teaser trailer shown during EA Play Live offered little in the way of detail, but the Dead Space remake appears faithful to the dark and gory original game that spawned a franchise.

EA did not announce a release date for the new Dead Space.

The Dead Space series consisted of three main games, launched between 2008 and 2013, and a pair of spinoffs: puzzle-action game Dead Space Ignition and rail shooter Dead Space Extraction. The main games were set in the 26th century and starred Isaac Clarke, who battled undead beings known as Necromorphs, which, unlike traditional zombielike enemies, generally had to be dispatched by slicing off their limbs.

One of the co-creators of the Dead Space series, Glen Schofield, is working on a spiritual successor to the games called The Callisto Protocol with his studio Striking Distance. A sci-fi horror game set in the broader PUBG universe, The Callisto Protocol is slated for release sometime in 2022.
