Dead Space remake helmed by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla director

Eric Baptizat, game director on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and many other Ubisoft projects, is the current game director for EA Motive’s recently announced Dead Space remake. Baptizat left Ubisoft after 16 years in 2020 and joined EA to work on an unannounced title. He’s since confirmed via his LinkedIn page that he’s helming the new Dead Space title, as reported by VideoGamesChronicle.

While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was Baptizat’s first gig as game director, he served as lead game designer on several other games, namely Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

The Dead Space remake is both a remaster and spiritual successor to the original game. The game will still take place on the USG Ishimura, the mining starship from the original, but will have “an improved story, characters, gameplay mechanics, and more.” The remake was rumored to be in development for months prior to its announcement at EA Play 2021.

EA Motive has yet to offer a release window for the Dead Space remake, but said the game will eventually come to PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
