THE NEW GUY, KINDA: Why Tigers added ‘unheralded hero’ Tyler Alexander to starting rotation
Probable starting pitchers: Tigers LHP Tyler Alexander (1-1, 4.40 ERA) vs. Rangers RHP Mike Foltynewicz (2-9, 5.91 ERA).
Game notes: The Tigers got wins in all three of their rookie starters’ (Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning) starts against the Rangers this week, outscoring the Rangers 22-3. Now it’s Tyler Alexander’s turn; the lefty from TCU is in his third season, with 13 starts in 54 appearances for the Tigers. He’ll have a much easier time if the Tigers give him the runs they’ve given the rest of the rotation; they’ve scored at least one run in the first three innings in all three defeats of Txas.
Tigers lineup:
CF Akil Baddoo
DH Jonathan Schoop
LF Robbie Grossman
C Eric Haase
3B Jeimer Candelario
1B Harold Castro
2B Willi Castro
SS Zack Short
RF Victor Reyes
P Matt Manning
