Dimension 20 goes back to school with a new season this August

A cast of seven tabletop RPG all-stars headlines Dimension 20: The Seven, the next season in the acclaimed actual play series created by Brennan Lee Mulligan. The 10-episode season launches Wednesday, Aug. 18 exclusively on CollegeHumor’s Dropout.tv.

Actual play events follow real players and a game master playing through a module of a tabletop RPG, like Dungeons & Dragons. The format has been around for a few years, gaining popularity recently with events starring the cast of Stranger Things and, most recently, the writing and animation staff of Rick and Morty (playing D&D at Comic-Con).

Dimension 20: The Seven returns the players to Fantasy High, the setting for the first two seasons, which is Mulligan’s D&D world cross-bred with high school society as it might be remembered in the 1950s to the 1980s. The Seven are a group of teens “taken prisoner by the villains of Fantasy High: Freshman Year,” says a news release from Dropout.

As a full-fledged adventuring party, the group could be broken up by the impending graduation of half its members. The players will be tasked with earning their GEDs, finding the school system’s missing Superintendent, and “sav[ing] the world of Spyre from the nefarious forces looking to destroy it.”

Dimension 20: The Seven stars Mulligan as the game master, and returns past players Erika Ishii, Aabria Iyengar (Exandria Unlimited), and Rekha Shankar to the table. They’re joined by series newcomers Becca Scott (Geek & Sundry), Persephone Valentine (Fast Times at D&D High), and Isabella Roland (Turnt).

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said Aabria Iyengar is a newcomer to the Dimension 20 series. She earlier appeared in the series’ Pirates of Leviathan campaign, and also was Game Master of the most recent season, Misfits and Magic. The story also said Emily Axford will appear in this new season; she will not. This post has been corrected.
