Emilia Clarke discussed Qi’ra’s potential return to the Star Wars universe.
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke made her Star Wars debut in 2018’s Solo, which opened to middling critical and commercial reception at the time. Since then, Solo: A Star Wars Story has been reappraised by many, gaining a cult-like status within the extensive Star Wars fan base. Qi’ra’s story ended on a cliffhanger, with Clarke’s character being summoned to Dathomir to join Darth Maul, her new “employer.”
Qi’ra’s story was recently picked up in the comic Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters, which confirmed that the character worked alongside Maul and lived to tell the tale. However, details are still fuzzy on how she ended up there, and if Qi’ra was the one who tipped off Enfys Nest in the film’s climax. Qi’ra was, of course, beholden to Dryden Voss, so his death meant her escape, but she latter got stuck in the mix with Darth Maul. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Emilia Clarke discussed the Enfys Nest fan theory, as well as her character’s potential return to the Star Wars universe.
“I wrote pages about Qi’ra – behind-the-scenes Qi’ra – and all of the other stuff that was going on. But I think it is only when she sees Han that she realizes that there is a way out. That’s what I was playing. That’s definitely where I was at. I don’t think she felt herself to be strong enough at that point to go on and escape Dryden’s grip. I think that Han is the slap around the face that made her go, ‘(Gasps) I was a whole person. I was this other thing. Where have the last 3 years gone?’ So it was that kind of thing.”
“I really had pages about what her life was and what it would be afterwards. I’m afraid I’ve heard nothing of [Disney+] being the case, so maybe I’ll just write it and send it to them. I’ll be like, ‘Hey guys, I’ve got a few ideas.’”
