Though his career record is just 7-11, he has a 2.96 ERA with 10.6 strikeouts and 7.2 hits allowed per nine innings while allowing three runs or fewer in 31 of his 35 career starts.
The Diamondbacks back him up with the majors’ highest bullpen ERA the past 30 days (6.04) while the Giants are fifth in bullpen ERA this season with a mark of 3.28.
The Giants enter the series having won nine straight versus Arizona and Gallen has surrendered four runs in each of his past two starts against the Giants, so the Diamondbacks (22-60) will continue to struggle.
