Giants vs. Diamondbacks prediction: Take San Francisco

The 2021 season has been one to forget for the Arizona Diamondbacks, while the San Francisco Giants have shocked many and will enter their Friday matchup in Arizona with the best record in the majors.

Giants starter Alex Wood has not been in his best form recently, but has had success against the Diamondbacks in his career. In 20 career appearances against Arizona, Wood has a 6-4 record with a 2.96 ERA and 3.7 strikeout-to-walk rate with just one loss in his last 13 appearances.

Arizona’s Zac Gallen has posted a 5.11 ERA with three home runs and seven walks issued in 12¹/₃ innings in three starts since coming off the injured list. Though his career record is just 7-11, he has a 2.96 ERA with 10.6 strikeouts and 7.2 hits allowed per nine innings while allowing three runs or fewer in 31 of his 35 career starts.

The Diamondbacks back him up with the majors’ highest bullpen ERA the past 30 days (6.04) while the Giants are fifth in bullpen ERA this season with a mark of 3.28.

The Giants enter the series having won nine straight versus Arizona and Gallen has surrendered four runs in each of his past two starts against the Giants, so the Diamondbacks (22-60) will continue to struggle.

The play: Giants, -130
