Gigi Hadid is asking for a bit of privacy.
The international supermodel penned an open letter to the paparazzi, press, and fan accounts to address the future of her daughter Khai Malik.
Hadid, who welcomed her baby girl with Zayn Malik back in September 2020, mostly keeps her out of the spotlight.
While Hadid has shared photos of her baby, the couple has not revealed her face–a move many celebrities and public figures also follow.
The protective mother shared the long post on her social media.
A Letter From a Mamma
Hadid explained that she wanted to bring Khai into the world without dealing with the stress of shielding her from the public.
The model iterated that her baby was getting more curious about the world and was lifting her sunshade. However, she did not understand why or what Hadid is protecting her from.
She continued that as she takes her daughter to see and explore NYC and the world, she wants to do it “without the stress of the media circus that comes with parents who are public figures.”
She then requested the public to blur out her daughter’s face in images if she was caught on camera.
Our wish is that she can choose how to share herself with the world when she comes of age and live as normal of a childhood as possible, without worrying about a public image that she has not chosen.
Hadid thanked the respectful photographers who kept their distance to avoid overwhelming and disorienting her child from the dramatic paparazzi frenzy while she was out and about in New York City.
She concluded the letter by expressing her hope of continuing the conversation to protect minors in the media, even if they come from a public family.
In the post, fans also showed support by reiterating her concerns and pleading to the paparazzi on behalf of Hadid.
Getting Advice by Friends
For Hadid and Malik, protecting their child’s privacy has always been a top priority.
In an interview with Vogue, the model shared that she has famous celebrity friends who also chose to keep their children away from the spotlight.
She noted that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’s kids really blossomed differently, and she wants the same for her daughter.
Lively told Vogue previously that she and Hadid had conversations about this early in her pregnancy and advised her to do something she was comfortable with and suited her better.
Hadid also revealed that her daughter would be raised on their farmhouse in Pennsylvania amongst the greenery, which allows her daughter the privacy Hadid wants.
