How to watch the Olympics 2021 Opening Ceremony

The delayed 2020 Olympics are finally here. Being that Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of the East Coast of the U.S., many events and ceremonies will be rebroadcast on NBC at later times to accommodate for the time difference.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Olympics 2021 Opening Ceremony and the beginning of the Tokyo Games:

When do the 2021 Olympics start and end?

Competition for soccer and softball began on July 21; the Closing Ceremony will take place on August 8.

When does the Opening Ceremony start?

This year’s Opening Ceremony will be broadcast at three different times. The live presentation and primetime showing will take place on July 23 and the overnight recap will begin on July 24.

The live showing of the Opening Ceremony will begin at 6:55 a.m. ET and conclude at 11 a.m. ET on NBC and will be streamed live on the NBC Sports app and on NBCOlympics.com.

The primetime broadcast will take place from 7:30 p.m. ET until midnight. This will contain additional coverage of Team USA alongside the Opening Ceremony.

The overnight replay will occur beginning at 12:35 a.m. ET until 5 a.m.

Both of these rebroadcasts will also be available online and can be streamed online.

This will be NBC’s first-ever live morning broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies and will spearhead the network’s all-day Olympic coverage. All spectators have been banned from the Summer Games due to Japan’s COVID-19 state of emergency.

The 2021 Olympics can be watched live on NBC, USA, NBCSN, CNBC, Olympic Channel and the Golf Channel.

Olympic events are ceremonies will be available for streaming on Peacock, NBCOlympics.com, NBC Sports App and fuboTV.

Who are the US flag bearers?

Four-time gold medalist and women’s basketball star Sue Bird and baseball player Eddy Alvarez will be Team USA’s flag bearers. Bird, 40, is a five-time Olympian and plays for the WNBA’s Seattle Storm. Alvarez, 31, is an infielder for the Miami Marlins. Prior to his MLB career, he was a short track speed skater and won a silver medal for the U.S. at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
