Idris Elba‘s Bloodsport Suit Transforms Into Weapons

Idris Elba’s Bloodsport suit can transform into several different weapons in The Suicide Squad.

Idris Elba joined The Suicide Squad shortly after Will Smith left the film due to obligations on Netflix’s Bright sequel. It was first reported that Elba would replace Smith as Floyd Lawton/Deadshot in the sequel, but it was later revealed that the actor would instead be taking on an entirely different role. Rumors surrounding Elba’s role ran rampant through the internet with some saying he would play Deathstroke, Vigilante or an entirely different character.

Heroric Hollywood was told who Idris Elba was supposedly playing during a set visit that took place back in 2019, but the whole thing was a ruse to keep his real role hidden. While on set, it was said that Elba was playing a version of Vigilante, but The Suicide Squad‘s DC FanDome panel pulled the rug from beneath us. It turned out that the actor was cast as Bloodsport, a character from that comics who shot Superman, something that also happened in the DC Extended Universe.

Bloodsport must have some pretty impressive tech if he managed to take down Superman. During the set visit, we got to see some of the character’s arsenal and I must say that it is nuts. Bloodsport’s costume acts as a transformable weapon. The suit has multiple guns that combine into a bigger gun, a sword, a swinging mace and a bow and arrow. I’d say that Bloodsport is beyond capable of taking down Superman with that weaponry.

You can check out the synopsis for Margot Robbie’s The Suicide Squad below:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.
