‘I’m gutted’ over ‘Supernatural’ spinoff

TV has a viral case of sibling rivalry.

After less than a year since the lights went out on the 15-season-running “Supernatural,” the CW has already announced a prequel spinoff.

It’s great news for fans of the science fiction comedy-drama starring Jared Padalecki, 38, and Jensen Ackles, 43, which ran from 2005 to 2020.

However, it appears one of the two Winchester brothers wasn’t invited to take part in the family reunion — as Padalecki has revealed he had no idea a new “Supernatural” project was in the works.

“Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter,” Padalecki tweeted to co-star Ackles Thursday night. “I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”

When asked by one of his 2.9 million followers if his tweet was a joke, responded Padalecki, “No. It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it.”

“I’m gutted,” he added.

CW confirmed new series “The Winchesters” on Thursday, described as the backstory of how monster-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester were raised, and how their fabled parents came together and launched a mission to save the world from demons and ghouls.

Ackles revealed that he and wife Danneel, 42, who had a recurring role on “Supernatural” during the final two years of the show’s run, had developed the prequel story together and brought it to the network.

His character Dean will serve as narrator of the new series.

Jensen told Deadline, “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story.”

“I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Padalecki and Ackles have traded barbs on social media. In fall 2019, the latter took a lighthearted potshot at his co-star’s arrest at a fan convention. Padalecki was charged with two counts of assault after an alleged altercation with two employees at a bar in Austin, Texas.
