Islanders on brink after ugly 8-0 loss to Lightning

This was ugly.

The Islanders are on the brink of elimination following an 8-0 drubbing at the hands of the home Lightning on Monday in Game 5 of the semifinal.

The series heads back to Long Island Wednesday with the Islanders trailing 3-2.

Steven Stamkos and Alex Kilorn both scored twice for Tampa Bay, which scored three times in the first period and also got three assists from Nikita Kucherov.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 21 shots

Semyon Varlamov was pulled after allowing three goals on 26 shots.

Ilya Sorokin allowed five goals on 14 shots.
