The EU may now be reopened to vaccinated Americans, but New Yorkers are about to have a bit of European luxury in their own backyard.
Italian day spa QC Terme is about to open its newest location — and its only one outside of Europe — in the middle of New York Harbor on Governors Island. Tickets for QC NY are now on sale, with entry dates starting on Sept. 1.
The over 75,000-square-foot resort is housed in three of the 172-acre island’s landmarked military barracks and surrounding grounds.
The restored structures feature a variety of carefully “curated and designed” saunas and steam rooms offering a “sensory experience from the moment you enter,” QC CEO Andrea Quadrio Curzio told The Post.
The restored structures are no longer optimized for the Army, but rather the “ultimate self-care experience,” including themed relaxation rooms and infinity pools. The location cost more than $50 million to build out and has been in the works for the last five years.
“All of the furniture and decor is designed and made in Italy, and the tempered pools feature patented water jet chairs that can only be found on our properties,” he added.
There are Vichy showers, infrared beds, foot baths, hydro jets, steam baths and outdoor thermal pools with panoramic views of the New York City and New Jersey skylines.
Curzio and his brother, Saverio, established their spa brand in 1982 in Italy and have since expanded, with multiple destinations across Europe. “Our roots come mainly from the ancient Roman Baths,” Curzio said. “Italian excellence and luxury is in our DNA.”
For New Yorkers who think of spas as treatments, Curzio believes they’ll be pleasantly surprised by his team’s European export. “The reason our guests stay for an average of 4+ hours is because they get lost in all the immersive experiences,” he said, adding that the facility provides a “unique environment where people can recover emotionally.”
For those who are in it for a massage, though, they range in price from $100 to $250, in addition to an $88 day pass, which includes full spa access and a round-trip ferry ticket. Food and drink cost extra.
QC NY will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
“I think we are opening at the perfect time,” Curzio said. “Now is the time to recover our mind, body and soul.”
