Munguia was set to face Maciej Sulecki on April 24, but Sulecki was pulled and replaced by D’Mitrius Ballard the day before the fight. Ballard then suffered an injury, and the fight was scrapped. Szeremeta (21-1, five KOs) last fought in December and came up short against IBF champion Gennadiy Golovkin. He suffered the first loss of his career in a seventh-round knockout. He hopes to rebound against a rising star who is expected to become a major player in the middleweight division.
The undefeated Munguia is only 24 but already has a 36-0 record with 29 knockouts and held the WBO junior middleweight championship before making the move to middleweight. He has stopped his last three opponents and was impressive in his last outing when he forced Tureano Johnson to retire in the sixth round.
