Kamala Harris gets ‘routine’ checkup after meet with COVID-infected Dems

Vice President Kamala Harris is going to Walter Reed Medical Center for a “routine doctor’s appointment” on Sunday after coming into contact last week with three Democratic lawmakers from Texas who tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Fox News.

The news of her trip to the hospital in Bethesda, Md., just outside the nation’s capital came as she tweeted: “This Delta variant is no joke. Get vaccinated.”

Harris met with the Lone Star State Democrats last Wednesday and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in his Capitol Hill office.

Symone Sanders, her spokeswoman, said the Veep did not come into close contact with the ill lawmakers.

“Based on the timeline of these positive tests, it was determined the Vice President and her staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure because they were not in close contact with those who tested positive and therefore do not need to be tested or quarantined,” Sanders said Saturday, noting that Harris and her staff had all been vaccinated.

Her office did not immediately respond to questions from Fox News about whether she was exhibiting symptoms.

Chris Turner, chairman of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, said Saturday that the three unnamed members would self-quarantine for 10 days.

One of them is experiencing mild symptoms of COVID-19.

The Texas Democrats walked out of the state House of Representatives last Monday and flew aboard two chartered flights to Washington, DC, to scuttle a Republican-backed election reform bill by depriving the chamber of a quorum.

While in Washington to wait out the special legislative session called by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the Democrats met with congressional lawmakers to press them to approve the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

The Democrats also walked out of the state House on May 30 in the final hours of the regular legislative session before a vote on the election legislation, leaving the chamber short of the required number of lawmakers to conduct a vote.

The Texas Democrats have been slammed by Republicans for running away from their duties to represent their constituents, and Abbott has threatened to have them arrested when they return to Texas in August.
