LI native Andrew Capobianco wins silver medal at Olympics

Long Island native Andrew Capobianco and partner Michael Hixon snagged a silver medal in the men’s 3-meter synchronized dive at the Tokyo Games on Wednesday.

Capobianco and Hixon scored 444.36 points, trailing only China’s team of Zongyuan Wang and Xie Siyi, who scored 46.82, according to TeamUSA.org.

The 21-year-old will now compete in the individual 3-meter event at the Olympics, TeamUSA.org stated.

“It definitely makes me confident going into individual and I’m happy that the judges were able to see a little bit more of me heading into there,” the Indiana University student said, according to the website.

Capobianco went to school in Wantaugh before moving to Holly Springs, North Carolina, WTVD reported.

George Young, a former coach on Long Island, said that the diver had ambitions even at a young age.
