‘Loki’ Teases Mahershala Ali’s Blade In Latest Episode

Mahershala Ali was announced as Blade in 2019.

The latest episode of Loki just teased Mahershala Ali’s Blade!

If the third episode of Loki was the calm before the storm, then the fourth episode was a typhoon. Filled to the brim with action-packed sequences, emotional beats, jaw-dropping revelations, and easter eggs, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has found its stride before its final two episodes. Of all the moments from this week’s jam-packed episode, perhaps the most memorable has to be an easter egg that teases Maherhala Ali’s upcoming portrayal of Blade.

In the episode, Owen Wilson’s Mobius is ruminating on how the TVA has brought in a variety of beings who haven’t been as much trouble as Loki and Sylvie, Asgardian royalty. Mobius mentions that they’ve brought in and dealt with Kree, Titans, and vampires in the past. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has previously showcased the Kree in Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Titans Thanos has been a staple of the franchise since 2012’s Avengers. Vampires, however, are a different wheelhouse that the MCU hasn’t explored yet. Mahershala Ali, best known for his role in Moonlight, has been brought on board as the MCU’s resident vampire-hunter Blade.

Details are slim on Mahershala Ali’s Blade film, though it is known that Ali himself pitched the role to Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige. With vampires mentioned in a show as prominent as Loki, it’s clear that Marvel wants to build up vampires in the minds of the audience before Ali suits up as Blade in the coming years.
