Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins contracts COVID for the second time

Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins has contracted COVID-19 for the second time since January 2020, he announced Sunday night.

Higgins revealed in a post on Facebook that in addition to his own diagnosis, his son and wife are battling the illness as well.

“Becca and I had COVID before, early on, in January 2020, before the world really knew what it was,” the Republican lawmaker wrote.

Referring to coronavirus as a “CCP biological attack weaponized virus,” Higgins said the family’s second bout has been “far more challenging.”

“It has required all of my devoted energy. We are all under excellent care, and our prognosis is positive,” he said.

Higgins’ home state of Louisiana is lagging nationally in vaccination rates.

According to the most recent data provided by Johns Hopkins, just 36.5 percent of the state’s population has been fully vaccinated — far below the national average of 49.7 percent.
