If you are searching for hairstyle inspiration, Michelle Williams is your woman.

During her many public appearances through the years, The Greatest Showman star has made bold statements with her hair.

Speaking of those instances, she donned a super-short light blonde hair at the 2017 Oscars, where she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

She wore a Nicolas Ghesquière–designed black velvet halter gown with a heavily embroidered skirt.

Just a year before that, she walked the red carpet of the Annual Critics’ Choice Awards with a sleek, slicked-back hairstyle complemented by deep, smoky eyes.

Going back to her Dawson’s Creek days circa the early 2000s, the actress used to be in long layers and curtain-style fringe hairs.

She even appeared at the 2006 Academy Awards wearing a bright yellow Vera Wang gown with an off-center romantic low bun. The look that went down in history.

Williams continued her long layered hair look as she showed off her bangs and a few loose tendrils at the 24th Annual Film Independent’s Spirit Awards in 2009.

Experimenting with her looks, she went with short brushed-back hair at the Blue Valentine premiere during the 54th BFI London Film Festival in 2010.

Since then, the 40-year-old actress has stayed on with her short hair looks. But time and again, she has not backed out from experimenting with those close crop hairstyles.

Take this for an example: Williams flaunted a simple light blonde hairstyle at the 2011 Academy Awards, arrived at the 2012 Golden Globes Awards with golden hair and a jewel-encrusted headband, then moved to silvery platinum locks, grown-out bangs, and chin-grazing hair on other few occasions.

Williams Reveals Reason for Pixie Cut

Speaking with British Elle in November 2011, the My Week with Marilyn actress disclosed her short hair was a tribute to her late former fiancé, actor Heath Ledger.

“I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it,” she said.

The actress was in a relationship with Ledger, who died on January 22, 2008, due to an accidental drug overdose. Together, they also had a daughter named Matilda Ledger.

In the interview, she also stated that Ledger was one of the few men who loved her in her short hair.

“It’s been a really long time since I had long hair, five years,” she added. “Of course, the only people who like it are gay men and my girlfriends. Straight men across the board are not into this hair!”
