New Stills Show Off James Gunn’s DC Film

New stills from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad show off the DC film’s chaotic energy.

One of DC’ most anticipated films has to be The Suicide Squad, primarily due to James Gunn being at the helm of the project. Best known for directing the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Gunn was given complete creative control over the DC property, allowing him to fully manifest the chaos of the source material. With the film set to be rated R, and Gunn already confirming that a majority of the Squad members won’t survive, expectations are sky-high for DC’s latest offering.

A new trailer for The Suicide Squad is expected to debut today, with the sneak peek dropping any minute. Alongside the new look at the film comes a flurry of new stills that tease just how insane James Gunn’s effort will be. Some of the highlights include the Polka-Dot Man devilishly shooting polka-dots and Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and Rick Flag stoically walking away from what looks like a fiery, turned-over truck. Oh, and there’s also a picture of King Shark trying to take on Starro.

The trailer will also touch upon the backstory of Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba. It turns out that Elba’s Bloodsport is in prison for shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet, which sent the Man of Steel to the ICU.

You can check out the synopsis for the James Gunn film below.

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.
