Paige Spiranac is closing her Bryson DeChambeau burn book.
On Sunday, the “Playing A Round” podcast host, 28, offered her condolences to polarizing golfer DeChambeau, 27, who had a disappointing run in the final round of last weekend’s US Open.
“I feel bad for Bryson. We’ve all been there with golf and it’s a horrible feeling,” Spiranac tweeted.
DeChambeau, last year’s US Open champion, had a one-shot lead, 5-under par, and finished 3-over. He finished the tournament tied for 26th.
“I didn’t get off the rails at all,” DeChambeau said of his performance. “It’s golf. People will say I did this or did that, and it’s just golf. I’ve had plenty of times where I hit it way worse than today and I won. It’s just one of those things where I didn’t have the right breaks happen at the right time.”
Spiranac — who has long been outspoken about DeChambeau’s behavior — addressed his meltdown at Torrey Pines on Monday’s podcast, stating the spiral “broke [her] heart.”
“He looked like he was about to cry on No. 18, and I know a lot of you guys are going to say, ‘Well, it’s Bryson, it’s karma, he deserves it,’ whatever it may be, and regardless of your opinion on Bryson DeChambeau, we have all been in that position,” Spiranac said.
“We’ve all been on the golf course where it feels good, and all of the sudden, it takes a turn for the worst,” she continued. “I never want anyone to feel that way or go through that because it’s horrible, it is truly horrible.”
Spiranac also explained that while she has called out DeChambeau past actions, her intentions are not malicious.
“I know a lot of people think that I’m a Bryson hater, I am not a Bryson hater. I said some things about Bryson when he was acting up, being a little bit of a jerk, called him out on it, but since then, I haven’t had a problem with Bryson,” Spiranac said. “He is fun to talk about, at times he is fun to hate on, he is an easy joke, and most of the time when I’m messing around with it, it’s a bit.”
Spiranac told her listeners that she never wanted to “seem hateful towards someone else.”
“It’s all in good fun, and maybe I’ve crossed the line here or there, but I’ve just tried to do it in a humorous way,” she said.
Although DeChambeau can bounce back, according to Spiranac, she was excited for this year’s champion, Jon Rahm, who celebrated with wife Kelley Cahill and their newborn son, Kepa, on Sunday.
“LFG Jon Rahm. Much deserved,” she tweeted.
