Pokémon Go Fest 2021 includes a new set of Special Research tasks that will, ultimately, let players catch Meloetta, the Normal/Psychic-type Mythical Pokémon from the Unova region. Like previous Mythical Pokémon Special Research quests, it’s a multistep process, with plenty of rewards and Pokémon encounters that will make the to-do list worth it.
Unlike previous years, however, Meloetta’s Special Research includes a handful of choices. At certain steps, players will have to decide which Pokémon they want to encounter. That includes choosing Pikachu Rock Star or Pikachu Pop Star, the cosplaying Pikachu that will make their Pokémon Go debut at Go Fest 2021. You’ll make your choices after completing certain steps, and reap the rewards in the following step.
Players will also have to choose whether they want to encounter Galarian Zigzagoon or Galarian Ponyta, and Flygon or Gardevoir at certain steps. Those four Pokémon will be decked out with special hats.
All eight steps to Meloetta’s Special Research are listed below:
Step 1 of 8
- Earn a heart with your buddy (1 Incense)
- Use an Incense (50 Poké Balls)
- Catch 10 Pokémon (500 XP)
Rewards: 500 Stardust, 1 Super Incubator, 50 Poké Balls
Choice: Pikachu Rock Star or Pikachu Pop Star?
Step 2 of 8
- Hatch an Egg (25 Great Balls)
- Catch 20 Pokémon (500 Stardust)
- Take a snapshot (500 XP)
Rewards: 10 Razz Berries, 10 Pinap Berry, Pikachu Rock Star or Pikachu Pop Star encounter
Choice: Galarian Zigzagoon or Galarian Ponyta?
Step 3 of 8
- Use 15 Berries to help catch Pokémon (25 Poké Balls)
- Make 3 Curveball Throws (500 XP)
- Make 3 Nice Throws in a row (500 Stardust)
Rewards: 25 Poké Balls, 1 Incense, Galarian Zigzagoon or Galarian Ponyta encounter
Choice: Flygon or Gardevoir?
Step 4 of 8
- Take a snapshot (1 Incense)
- Walk 1 km (500 XP)
- Use an Incense (20 Ultra Balls)
Rewards: 500 Stardust, 3 Rare Candy, Flygon or Gardevoir encounter
Step 5 of 8
Rewards: 3 Max Revives, 3 Max Potions, Pokémon Candy (Trapinch or Ralts, depending on choice of Flygon or Gardevoir)
Step 6 of 8
- Send 3 Gifts to friends (30 Great Balls)
- Catch 15 different species of Pokémon (1,000 XP)
- Earn a heart with your buddy (1,000 Stardust)
Rewards: 5 Golden Razz Berries, 5 Silver Pinap Berries, 1 Incense
Step 7 of 8
- Use 10 Berries to help catch Pokémon (3,000 XP)
- Catch 10 Pokémon (3,000 Stardust)
- Earth 5,000 Stardust (3,000 XP)
Rewards: 1 Lucky Egg, 1 Star Piece, Meloetta encounter
