Portland, Oregon, meet summer.
An unprecedented, possibly dangerous heatwave is set to strike the Pacific Northwest this weekend — with states including Oregon and Washington expected to bake like never before.
Temperatures could soar to 30 to 40 degrees above average in some areas, toppling daily, monthly and perhaps even all-time records, according to AccuWeather.
“There are typically a few rounds of heat in the Pacific Northwest each summer, but this particular heat wave looks quite extreme,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson.
“Heat can be especially dangerous in the Pacific Northwest because air conditioning is not as common as the rest of the country,” Thompson added.
Following highs well into the 90s from Friday, the mercury could crack a record-breaking 110-degrees in Portland by Sunday, and Seattle could see temps of up to 100 degrees, forecasters said.
Average highs in June usually range in the 70s in eastern Washington and Oregon.
“Record books may be sweating it out through the middle part of next week as a dangerous and prolonged heat wave sets in over the Northwest,” the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center tweeted Friday.
“Stay hydrated, and be cognizant of the signs of heat exhaustion as the heat continues to build in!”
