Randy Bruce Traywick, popularly known as Randy Travis, is a man of many talents. The Marshville, North Carolina native, is a country music and gospel music singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor.
In addition, Travis is a happily married man with a very supportive and loving wife, Mary Davis. And despite not having any children, the two have found a way to nurture happiness between themselves.
Davis, who is the singer’s second wife, is also the same person who stood by him when he suffered a massive stroke in July 2013.
His Stroke Nearly Took His Life
The gospel music singer had a massive stroke “as a complication of his congestive heart failure,” after complaining of congestion a few days ago.
The stroke affected the whole central region of his left brain, and at one point, his heart had completely stopped. To help protect his brain, the doctors immediately put him on life support and into an induced coma.
The doctors later recommended his then-fiancée, Davis, to consider taking him off life support since he had only a 1% chance of survival.
Davis Stood by Him
It was Davis who believed Travis could recover and asked the doctors to perform brain surgery on the singer.
“Even in his state, his semi-coma state, he squeezed my hand, and he laid there, and I just saw this tear that fell, and it was one tear at a time,” she told Country Thang Daily in April 2020. “I just went back to the doctors, and I said, ‘We’re fighting this.’”
Afterward, the 62-year-old singer underwent brain surgery and spent the next six months in the hospital. The surgery saved his life, but he lost his voice initially and had to learn to walk again.
He still has difficulty speaking and has lost his mobility and use of the right side of his body.
That being said, he showed great strength when he performed a rendition of Amazing Grace in October 2016 while he attended his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
He also published a memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith, and Braving the Storms of Life, in May 2019.
The book covers “a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at dizzying success and the miraculous road to restoration” about Travis’ life.
And the woman who stood by his side in all his post-stroke works and achievements was his wife, Davis.
They Have Been Married for Over 6 Years
Travis and his wife Davis tied the knot on March 21, 2015, in an intimate wedding.
The two have been together since 2012.
They later got engaged in early 2013.
Both Travis and Davis were previously married to different partners. The Grammy Award-winning singer was married to his manager and wife Elizabeth Hatcher-Travis from 1991 to 2010.
The ex-couple separated after Travis filed a petition for the dissolution of marriage on October 28, 2010. The divorce was finalized a day later.
As for Davis, she was married to a Dallas-based cosmetic dentist Dr. Ritchie Beougher. She had two children with her ex-husband: a daughter named Cavenaugh and a son named Raleigh Beougher.
