Rescue teams from Israel and Mexico working in Florida

Rescue crews from Israel and Mexico were on the ground in Florida on Sunday to help try to find survivors and recover bodies from the rubble of a crumbled condo tower.

The teams flocked to the scene to aid local authorities, who were using dogs, sonar, drones and infrared scanners to search the mangled debris of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside near Miami Beach.

“We [have] waves of search and rescue teams, we’ve got teams now from Israel and Mexico, we’ve had calls from South Africa,” Miami-Dade Mayor Danielle Levine Cava told reporters over the weekend.

“Hundreds of team members are on standby to rotate as we need a fresh start,” Levine Cava said. “So we are not lacking any personnel, but we have the best, we have the right people and the right number, and we are getting it done.”

No cause has been released in the tower collapse, which has left at least nine people dead and 150 more missing.

About 20 Israeli citizens are believed among the missing in the disaster, Israeli outlets reported.

Another 22 people still missing are from Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay and Paraguay, including relatives of Paraguayan first lady Silvana de Abdo Benítez.
