The Oakland Athletics are chasing the Houston Astros in the AL West and will look to make up ground on Wednesday against Houston’s breakout starter Luis Garcia.
Garcia has a 3.14 ERA with a 6-5 record and 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings this season and has been at his best at home with a 2.58 ERA and 0.8 home runs and 2.4 walks per nine innings allowed.
Oakland’s Sean Manaea has given up a total of 10 runs in his past eight starts and has allowed two runs or fewer and no home runs in six of his seven road starts in 2021.
The Athletics rank third in MLB in road batting average, and the Astros will be without Alex Bergman and have had starters Michael Brantley and Kyle Tucker in and out of the lineup of late to due injuries. With Houston having gone just 4-5 in home games in which Garcia has pitched, the Athletics should tighten up the AL West race with a win on Wednesday.
