Trump bashes British Open for bypassing his Scottish course

Former president Donald Trump teed off on organizers of the British Open Saturday for hosting this year’s contest at the Royal St. George’s in Kent — rather than at a Scottish course that Trump just happens to own.

“As almost all of the great players, sportscasters, and golf aficionados know, the greatest site and course of all for The Open is Turnberry, in Scotland,” Trump declared in an email blasted out Saturday from his official post-presidential account.

“It is truly a magical place,” he said of the resort he bought in 2014 for a reported $63 million.

Royal St. George’s bumpy terrain and unusual sightlines have drawn criticism from some competitors in this year’s 149th Open.

“It’s not my favorite venue that we’ve played,” Brooks Koepka said this week. “Whether it be a couple shots to nothing, a couple blind tee shots or shots in where you can’t really see much. I’m not too big of a fan of that.’’

As the ex-putter-in-chief lauded Turnberry’s “phenomenal” features, he supplied an explanation for the organizers’ choice — and his trademark over-the-top boasting.

“This course was not chosen for The Open because they consider a wonderful person, and many-time Club Champion, named Donald J. Trump, to be too controversial,” he asserted.

“Remember, though, controversy only makes things ‘hotter,’” Trump added.
