Warframe will get cross-play, cross-progression, and a mobile port

Canadian developer Digital Extremes hosted TennoCon, the yearly convention for all things Warframe, on Saturday. During the event, the developer shared some previews of upcoming content, but the biggest change I’m excited for takes place under the hood. Cross-save, cross-progression, and cross-play are coming to the game, as well as a new mobile version.

All future updates, including the upcoming The New War, will now launch simultaneously across all consoles. Warframe is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

This is, needless to say, a huge benefit to people who have sunk a ton of time into Warframe. I have about 1,000 hours on my main account, which means I could never get into a console version of the game. How could I give up my guns, gear, and frames? Now, I don’t have to make such a brutal choice. I’ll be able to play Warframe in bed on the Switch, which is the best possible change.

There is currently no launch date for Warframe on mobile devices; the port is “actively in development,” Digital Extremes said. We’ll likely learn more about cross-play and cross-progression as we get closer to The New War expansion, which is planned for a 2021 release.
