Washington, D.C. Quidditch team to play first match since pandemic

The Washington, D.C. Quidditch team, the Washington Admirals, will play their first game of the season since the pandemic Saturday afternoon at The Fields, an outdoor sporting complex in the capital.

The team will face the New York Titans.

The game is a creation of author J.K. Rowling and featured prominently in her “Harry Potter” books as the sport of choice for students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The rules of the game are unaltered from her original text as much as possible, though some accommodations have been made for muggle participants. Instead of flying on brooms, players use PVC poles. The golden snitch is replaced by a sock stuffed with a tennis ball, according to Washingtonian magazine.

The Washington Admirals are affiliated with Major League Quidditch and was one of the first squads to join the franchise in 2015.
