The US women’s national soccer team will be playing for a medal in Tokyo at the end of the 2020 Olympics. In the wee hours of Monday morning, we will find out if it’s gold or bronze.
The USWNT’s semifinal matchup against Canada will headline another exciting day of action for the American athletes, though you’ll have to get up early to watch – both the soccer game and a number of gymnastics medals should be decided before 7 AM.
There’s also baseball, track and field and a number of other exciting events on the docket for Team USA on the Tokyo Olympics’ 10th day.
Here are the major Olympic events that will take place on Monday, August 2:
Women’s soccer semifinals, USWNT vs. Canada: 4:00 AM, USA Network
Pre-load your coffee maker tonight for this early morning headliner. Coming off a thrilling quarterfinal victory against the Netherlands Friday that took a penalty shootout to decide, the US now has a matchup against Canada that will be a rematch of the 2012 Olympic semifinal. That game nine years ago was a controversial one, as a questionable six-second violation call against Canada helped the Americans even the score late in the game, eventually winning on an Alex Morgan goal at the very end of extra time.
Both teams had to scratch and claw their way to get into this game, as Canada also won their quarterfinal game in penalty kicks. This one could end up being a classic.
Gymnastics: 4:55 AM, Peacock
Another great early morning event, the Americans will hope to keep up their medal-winning ways in the women’s floor finals without Simone Biles, who pulled out on Saturday. Jade Carey is the lone representative in this event, and she has a shot – her 13.933 on the floor during the women’s all around was the third-best score of the field.
The men’s rings (4:00) and men’s vault (5:50) finals will also be decided early Monday. No Americans are competing in either of those fields.
Track and Field: 9:20 PM (Sunday) and 7:00 AM (Monday), NBC and Peacock
Americans are in medal contention all across Day 10 of the Olympics, starting on Sunday night with the men’s high jump final (9:20 PM), where JuVaughn Harrison is in the field, though Cuba’s Juan Miguel Echevarria posted an absurd 8.50 meters in the qualification. Later Sunday night, the women’s 100 hurdles final (10:50 PM) will feature two Americans – Kendra Harrison and Gabrielle Cunningham – who put forth good times in the semifinals, but were blown out of the water by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn’s Olympic record of 12.26 seconds.
On Monday morning, Valarie Allman will compete for Team USA in the women’s discus final (7:00 AM), Benard Keter will compete in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final (8:15), and both Karissa Schweizer and Elise Cranny will run in the women’s 5000m final.

Beach volleyball: 8:00 PM (Sunday), NBC
The American duo of April Ross and Alex Klineman have a chance to advance to the quarterfinals Sunday night in the women’s beach volleyball tournament. Standing in their way is the Cuban duo of Lidianny Echevarria Benitez and Leila Consuelo Martinez Ortega.
Baseball: 6:00 AM, NBCOlympics.com
The US baseball team went 2-0 in pool play, and got to go straight to the second round of the knockout stage as a result. They will face Japan, who also won both of their opening round games.
The American team is headlined by a number of MLB vets, including infielder Todd Frazier, relief pitcher David Robertson and pitchers Scott Kazmir and Edwin Jackson.
