Wolverine Star Hugh Jackman On Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool MCU Debut

Logan still has some beef with Wade.

Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman responded to Ryan Reynolds’ first crossover with the MCU as Deadpool.

Earlier this week, the internet was caught by surprise when Ryan Reynolds shared a hilarious video of him as Deadpool filming a trailer reaction to his upcoming film Free Guy. But it wasn’t enough that the Merc with a Mouth was filming this funny meta trailer reaction video, because accompanying Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool was none other than his Free Guy (and Green Lantern) co-star Taika Waititi as Korg, marking this as Deadpool’s first crossover with the MCU.

Hugh Jackman, most recognized for his role as Wolverine in Fox’s X-Men film series, responded to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool MCU crossover on his official Instagram post in a hilarious comment, which Ryan Reynolds pinned:

This isn’t the first time both Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have playfully bantered with one another. Over the years, particularly sometime after the release of the much-maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the two would often trade humorous jabs at one another, leaning into the playful dynamic that Wolverine and Deadpool shared together in the comics.

Ryan Reynolds will officially join the MCU in a third Deadpool movie which is currently being written. While he seems to be the only returning member of Fox’s X-Men franchise joining the MCU (if you don’t count Evan Peters in WandaVision), some are speculating that Hugh Jackman teased a possible return as Wolverine on social media recently after posting some interesting images of him and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Either way, it’s fun to see the duo still poking fun at one another a la Wolverine and Deadpool. Here’s hoping they could potentially crossover in the MCU together.

Here’s the synopsis for Free Guy:

After realizing that he’s a non-playable-character in an open world video game that will soon get shut down, a bank teller played by Ryan Reynolds named Guy tries his best to save himself and the game from being permanently offline.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Free Guy stars Ryan Reynolds, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, Jodie Comer, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi. Streamers Ninja and Pokimane will have cameo appearances.

Free Guy will hit theatres on August 13, 2021.
