World’s biggest iPhone factory unaffected by floods in China

Electronics manufacturer Foxconn said Wednesday that its factory in Zhengzhou, China — the world’s largest iPhone assembly plant — has not been impacted by major flooding in the city.

Zhengzhou, a city in China’s central Henan province, has been devastated by what experts said were the heaviest rains in 1,000 years.

At least 16 have died so far and troops have been deployed to help with search and rescue as the onslaught of rain continues to pound the city of 12 million people about 400 miles southwest of Beijing.

Zhengzhou is also an important industrial hub, home to the world’s largest assembly plant for Apple’s iPhones.

But the operator of the factory, Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry, otherwise known as Foxconn, said the facility hasn’t been impacted by the flooding.

“We can confirm that there has been no direct impact on our facility in that location to date and we are closely monitoring the situation and will provide any updates as appropriate,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.

“We have been watching the weather situation in Zhengzhou closely and, in close cooperation with local authorities, we have activated an emergency response plan for flood control measures in that location,” they added.

“Protecting the safety and health of our employees is always our top priority.”

Representatives for Apple did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment, but its CEO Tim Cook posted about the floods on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like service.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the flooding across Henan province, and the first responders helping people to safety,” Cook said, adding that Apple will donate to support the response effort.
