Xiaomi has revealed the demo of its recent fast charging technology and is consequently claiming new world record for wireless and wired charging speeds. With the help of one modified Mi 11 Pro having a battery capacity of 4,000mAh, Xiaomi says that it is able to completely charge the smartphone in fifteen minutes through 120W wireless charging and in eight minutes through a 200W HyperCharge system.
The charging speeds are a battleground for the Chinese phone companies that often release demos of their breakthroughs that might or might not feature in the end product. For instance, two years ago, Xiaomi had announced one 100W system, which was capable of charging a 4,000mAh battery in seventeen minutes while the Mi 10 Ultra launched last year charged in twenty-three minutes at about 120W- although it did feature a larger battery capacity of 4,500mAh.
Oppo is also a performer in this category, with its new VOOC tech being the basis of Warp and Dash fast charge systems in OnePlus. The previous year, it demonstrated one 4,000mAh battery that could charge in twenty minutes at 125W.
Progress and new technology are always appreciated, and the mere thought of getting a phone fully charged within eight minutes is appealing. One will have to wait to see how Xiaomi’s new tech will perform, if it makes it in the final products.
