Yankees’ Gio Urshela ‘day to day’ after getting hit in shin

Gio Urshela was kept out of the Yankees’ lineup Wednesday night against the Royals because he was still feeling the effects of being hit by a pitch on his right shin during the loss to Kansas City on Tuesday night.

Manager Aaron Boone said X-rays were negative and the third baseman was “day-to-day.”

It’s another injury worry for the Yankees, who just got Luke Voit back from the injured list after he was sidelined with a strained oblique.

Urshela has dealt with a left knee contusion since last month, but has managed to play well. He remained in Tuesday’s game after getting hit in the seventh and singled in the bottom of the ninth. He was visibly uncomfortable running to first, however, and was removed for pinch-runner Miguel Andujar.

“It’s the side of the shin, more of the muscle,’’ Boone said. “It’s pretty sore and there’s a little swelling. … Hopefully it’s not something that keeps him down too long.”
