Final Jeopardy! clue about Ohio State described as one of the easiest ever

A Final Jeopardy! clue from the “colleges and universities” category was making a lot of people feel pretty smart during Tuesday, when current fill-in host Sanjay Gupta asked about a certain midwest University in Ohio the “The” in front of the school’s name.

In 2019 this public university attempted to trademark the word “The” for use on clothing and hats,” Gupta said, giving the contestants 30 seconds to write down their answers.

The correct answer, which all three contestants got right, is The Ohio State University. But according to many viewers at home, the clue the “the” into, “the easiest Final Jeopardy! question ever.” Because some of the comments on Twitter called it a “gimme,” said it was “too easy,” and wondered if the show is “even trying anymore.”

And whether it was easy or not, the show’s current champ Courtney Shah, a community college instructor from Portland, Oregon, used the right answer to add $4000 to her seven day total winnings of $118,558. So she probably has no complaints about the clue.
