On Tuesday, New York Attorney General Letitia James held a press conference where she announced the findings of an investigation into the sexual harassment claims against Andrew Cuomo. During the press conference, she announced that the investigation concluded that the governor sexually harassed multiple women, and violated state and federal laws.
According to NBC News, the investigation, which was carried out by the state’s attorney general’s office, found that Cuomo harassed 11 women, who are current and former state employees. It was reportedly found that Cuomo and his team also retaliated against one of the former employees for coming forward about the harassment.
New York Attorney General Letitia James said, “This investigation has revealed conduct that corrodes the very fabric and character of our state government and shines light on injustice that can be present at the highest level of government.” She continued to state that Cuomo engaged in unwanted groping, kissing, hugging, as well as inappropriate comments.
In the past, Cuomo has denied inappropriately touching anyone and issued an apology for any discomfort anyone may have felt, and expressed that it was not his intention.
New York’s congressional delegation and many state legislators have encouraged Cuomo to resign prior to the conclusion of the investigation, to which he decided not to resign. Attorney General James’ office launched an investigation into the allegations against him back in March.
Shortly after Attorney General James’ press conference, Cuomo released a video statement where he denied the claims against him. He said that his attorney prepared a rebuttal for the accusations against him as he pleaded his innocence.
“I am 63 years old. I’ve lived my entire adult life in public view. That is just not who I am, and that’s not who I have ever been,” he said.
