Yesterday Sha’Carri Richardson started to trend after a report surfaced alleging that she failed her drug test, and as a result, she could possibly miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Many fans around the world started advocating for her and explained why she is still deserving of competing.
On Friday, Sha’ Carri spoke with Today to speak about the situation. She takes full responsibility for her actions stating, “I know what I did. I know what I’m supposed to do, (what) I’m allowed not to do and I still made that decision. Don’t judge me because I am human.”

Today noted that there is still a small chance that she could still compete in the relay at the Olympics. When asked if she was hoping for that moment, Sha’Carri said, “Right now I’m just putting my time and energy into dealing with what I need to deal with to heal myself. So if I’m allowed to receive that blessing then I’m grateful for it, but if not right now I’m just going to focus on myself.” It was previously reported that she is facing a 30-day suspension for testing positive.
Early Friday, it was also announced that she cannot run in the Olympic-100-meter race.
As we previously reported, last month Sha’Carri qualified for the Olympics after winning the 100 meters race in 10.86 seconds.
During her interview with Today, she revealed that prior to that race she learned of her biological mother’s passing from a reporter. She had sat down for an interview that was set up by her agent, and the reporter was the first person to break the news to her.
“To hear that information to come from complete stranger, I was definitely triggering, it was definitely nerve shocking because it’s like, how are you to tell me that. No offense against him at all, he’s just doing his job, but definitely, that sent me in a state of emotional panic,” she said.
