Miami Heat, Marlins deliver supplies to rescuers at Fla. condo collapse

Miami’s pro sports teams came through in the clutch for weary rescue workers and displaced residents at the scene of the deadly condominium collapse in Surfside on Thursday.

Tyler Herro, the young guard of the Heat, joined assistant coaches Chris Quinn and Eric Glass on to deliver water, food and other supplies to the remains of the 12-story Champlain Towers South Condo as the search for survivors continues, social media video from Sun Sentinel reporter Chris Perkins showed.

And the Miami Marlins sent three vans worth of supplies, according to the National League East franchise’s Twitter account.

Herro spoke to first responders at the scene.

“I know it’s got to be hard on your guys as well, so I appreciate you guys coming out here and responding for us,” Herro is heard telling emergency workers in a Twitter video posted by Will Manso, a reporter for WPLG Local 10.

The Heat’s home turf, FTX Arena, is about 12 miles from the site of the condo collapse.

A team official telling The Associated Press that the three had been working out there Thursday morning before they loaded a truck and headed to the site.

“We heard about this, and our immediate reaction was that we had to find a way to help,” Steve Stowe, Heat vice president and charitable fund executive director, told the AP.

The team was working to continue the assistance effort by bringing more food to the scene as emergency workers continue an effort to find survivors amid the rubble of the partially collapsed building, the AP said.

The Marlins posted a short video showing vans filled with chips, beverage crates and other supplies.

“In support of our community during today’s tragic event, we sent three vans filled with meals and water to the rescue workers and kits of essential items and toiletries to the residents who have been displaced and families who have been impacted,” the tweet said.
