Miami highway sign hacked to read 'Arrest Fauci'

A hacker in Florida reprogrammed a digital highway sign to share COVID-19 conspiracy theories and a plea to can the nation’s top infectious disease expert.

A sign on State Road 836 in Miami read “Arrest Fauci,” “COVID-19 was a hoax” and “vaccines kill,” on Tuesday morning, according to NBC 6 South Florida.

Officials had turned off the messages by mid-morning, according to the outlet.

The prank comes as Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has served as chief medical adviser to the last seven presidents, continues to defend himself against critics who claim his messaging was inconsistent during the pandemic.

“A lot of what you’re seeing as attacks on me quite frankly are attacks on science, because all of the things that I have spoken about consistently from the very beginning, have been fundamentally based on science,” the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases told MSNBC earlier this month.

Fauci, 80, has been under fire after emails revealed he appeared to be taking warnings that the coronavirus was manufactured in a Chinese lab seriously, while publicly downplaying reports that the virus was engineered.

The origin of COVID-19 remains unclear.

On Tuesday, the White House said the US was not on track to reach President Biden’s goal of getting 70 percent of American adults to receive at least one COVID-19 shot by the Fourth of July.
