NYC woman has brain surgery after falling down subway stairs amid robbery

A 58-year-old woman underwent brain surgery Saturday night after falling down subway stairs during a robbery earlier in the day.

The unidentified woman, who was taken to Bellevue Hospital, was walking up the stairs from the Q line station at Broadway and Canal with her 22-year-old son when a man attacked them from behind, police said.

The man grabbed the son’s bookbag and as he started to fall backward, he reached for his mother. They both fell backward down the steps and the mother hit her head, police said.

The woman was taken to Bellvue Hospital after the incident.

The robber ran into the train station after the 10:44 a.m. attack.

A coffee stand worker nearby witnessed the mugging.

“I saw the guy holding the lady’s hand and he was screaming for help,” Carlos Lopez told The Post, referring to the woman’s son. “There was a lot of blood coming out of her head.

“Her son was screaming for help and I went over there to see what was happening. I got the officers.”
