Positive COVID tests increase across NY as vax rate reaches 75%

The percentage of COVID-19 tests coming back positive rose in every region of New York over the last three days, even as federal data showed the vaccination rate for adults, topped 75 percent.

On Friday, 3,050 New Yorkers tested positive for the deadly bug, for a statewide positivity rate of 2.40 percent, Gov. Cuomo announced.

New York City had a 2.25 percent positivity rate, rising .18 points since Wednesday. Staten Island remained the borough with the highest positivity rate, at 3.15 percent.

The Capital Region had the highest test positivity rate, when measured on a seven-day average, at 3.31 percent on Friday, according to data released by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.

Across the state, five people died from COVID-19 on Friday, three in Queens and two in Suffolk County.

There were 499 patients hospitalized Friday, an increase of 42 from the day before.

The governor’s office, citing federal data, said 75.2 percent of New Yorkers 18 and older have gotten at least one vaccine dose.
